Devo had toured only sporadically over the past couple decades, and in fact their last studio album was released 20 years ago. Until, that is, last year when they came roaring back with perhaps the best album of their career in Something for Everybody. Yes, you heard me right: best album of their career. They're never going to be as popular as they once were, and they'll never make it into high rotation on any radio station's playlist (certainly not like the halcyon days of the 80s when new wave ruled the airwaves and Whip It and Girl U Want catapulted the band from 'cult band from Ohio' status to 'legendary nerdcore band for the rest of eternity' status). But, yes, Something for Everybody is every bit as good as their early albums, and in my opinion, better. And I am of course a fan of those early albums, too, which is gonna work out fine because they play all sorts of those early songs as well as a smattering of the new tunes when they play live.
I had the pleasure of recording a few of their shows during the California leg of their tour in August of 2011, and here's a choice excerpt from the Saratoga (San Jose) show.
