In early 2011, Not Breathing opened for Meat Beat Manifesto for a tour of the west coast and a handful of midwest and east coast cities. The show in Los Angeles stood apart from all others as Skinny Puppy founder cEvin Key was made an honorary member of Not Breathing for this one and only show.
The main thrust of the music was still characteristically Not Breathing, with Dave and Karl supplying the heavy-as-concrete beats with screachy squelchy synths. But cEvin's presence could always be felt and heard with his own buzzy noisemakers and melodies, which reminded me of his noisier work like Skinny Puppy's Puppy Gristle or Download's soundtrack to Charlie's Family.
Not Breathing with cEvin Key, 9 February 2011, live at the El Rey, Los Angeles.
